Pres. Chakwera markets Malawi as a hotly contested destination for foreign direct investment in Africa

President Lazarus Chakwera stated in New York, USA, during an Invest in Malawi Forum, that Malawi is on the verge of becoming the most hotly contested destination for foreign direct investment in Southern Africa.

For many years, Malawi has been recognized for its potential in sectors like Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining. However, it’s only in recent years that the country has deliberately taken strategic measures to create the necessary conditions for attracting unprecedented levels of investment in the coming years.

Addressing global business leaders at the event, President Chakwera conveyed that by participating in this forum, they have positioned themselves to gain an early advantage in the exciting competition for a share in Malawi’s inevitable economic prosperity.

“If you go to Malawi today, you will find that the whole place is a construction site of various road and rail infrastructural projects, because these are going to be crucial in the movement of people and goods in and out of Malawi during the investment revolution that is coming.

“If you go to Malawi today, you will find that we are implementing various energy projects to triple our electricity generation capacity in the next few years, because this will power the industrialisation and digitisation revolution we are preparing Malawi for going forward,” Chakwera said.

Writing on twitter, Chakwera said  “we have promoted Malawi as a viable investment destination. Huge opportunities in Agriculture, Tourism, Mining, Health, Education & Infrastructure development. Come, invest in Malawi.”
