President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the importance of Malawians in the diaspora to consistently contemplate investing in their home country, with the aim of advancing its progress. The President said during in a discussion session with Malawian entrepreneurs based in South Africa at Sandton City.
During the engagement, the Malawian leader encouraged individuals abroad and potential investors to recognize the ample investment prospects that Malawi can provide. Dr. Chakwera specifically mentioned sectors such as mining, agriculture, tourism, and transportation as areas with substantial investment potential.
After the meeting, Minister of Finance Sosten Gwengwe emphasized that contributing to the country’s development is a responsibility for all patriotic Malawians.
“The President has just emphasized that Malawi will only develop if the citizens take the lead in championing development,” he said.
Fumu Msiska, who represented the group of business individuals residing in South Africa, described the meeting as productive and assured the President of their preparedness to invest in their home country.
President Chakwera is in South Africa to participate in the BRICS Summit, an alliance of five nations consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Various leaders are joining the summit upon the request of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
Representatives of business people living in South Africa, Fumu Msiska, described the meeting as fruitful and assured the President that the team is ready to invest back home.
Dr Chakwera arrived in South Africa on Sunday to attend the BRICS Summit, a grouping of five countries comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Other leaders are attending the summit at the invitation of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
