Political Commentator Urges Separation of Mulhakho wa ALhomwe from DPP

Renowned social and political analyst, George Phiri, has criticized Mulhakho wa Alhomwe tribal organization which is backed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for implying that President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is marginalizing the Lhomwe community within the government.

Mulhakho wa Alhomwe was originally established by former President Bingu wa Mutharika as a tool to consolidate his political power and influence within the country.

The Chief Executive Officer of this group, Pius Mvenya, stated in an interview with the local media on Thursday that they would not extend an invitation to President Chakwera for their 2023 cultural festival due to their perception that his government is sidelining the Lhomwe community within the government.

Mvenya asserted that many Lhomwe individuals, primarily hired based on their origin and affiliation with the DPP, have been dismissed by the current administration. In response to these claims, analyst George Phiri criticized the cultural organization for aligning itself closely with the DPP.

Phiri noted that the group has not managed to distance itself from the political party and argued that their decision to not invite President Chakwera to the cultural event would likely have no significant impact.
