Open Letter to Leader of Government in Parliament, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda

Chimwendo: Leader of the House in Parliament

OPEN LETTER HONORABLE LEADER OF GOVERNMENT IN PARLIAMENT, HON. RICHARD CHIMWENDO BANDA

Dear Leader of Government In Parliament Honorable Richard Chimwendo Banda,

I trust this letter finds you well.

As a concerned parent who wrote an open letter to Bright Msaka a few days ago, I wish this time to express my deep admiration for your leadership in Parliament, particularly regarding the Legal Education and Legal Practitioners Act amendment bill.

Leader,

Your unwavering support for Chancellor College amidst the onslaught of hostility from Bright Msaka and his DPP allies was truly commendable. In the face of their misguided arguments aimed at undermining the bill, your resolute defense of the institution exemplified your genuine care and concern.

Amidst that adversity that day, you showed us once again why your admirers describe you as a bulldozer for you instilled hope not only in informed parents like myself but hopefully also in the hearts of countless downtrodden students across our nation. Your promise to push the bill, echoed by your charge, “I will try, try and try,” when Msaka tried to misguide the house resonated deeply and served as a beacon of hope for those marginalized voices in our society. I also extend my appreciation to Hon. Yeremiah Chihana for his wisdom and discernment in these matters.

To Bright Msaka and the DPP, I implore you to heed the signs of the times. It is evident that you are no longer in power, and clinging to a false sense of relevance serves no purpose. Your loss of power stemmed from a failure to prioritize the interests of the people over personal agendas, as evidenced by the unfortunate plight of the University of Malawi during your tenure. If the MCP is to reclaim power in 2025, it will be due to their unwavering commitment to the listening type of leadership and the MCP is government is truly coming across as the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The passage of the Legal Education and Legal Practitioners Act (Amendment) Bill serves as a testament to the MCP’s dedication to listening to the concerns of all citizens. I believe this demonstrates to university students that the Chakwera administration is indeed their government, one that values their input and seeks to address their grievances with compassion and understanding.

Bright Msaka, in light of the bill’s passage, I urge you to reflect on the implications of your divisive rhetoric. Your opposition has been decisively overcome, leaving you with proverbial egg on your face. Let this be a lesson in humility and a reminder to prioritize the interests of the majority over narrow, self-serving agendas.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda, Justice Minister Hon. Titus Mvalo, and the entire Parliament for your diligent efforts in passing this crucial bill.

Yours faithfully,

Stanley Katengeza
