Northern Group Harshly Condemns Kaliati and Others: ‘We are not commodities’

In a scathing message, a group of supporters of the UTM from the Northern Region have strongly condemned the recent decisions and actions taken by the party’s Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati and her associates.

The message, released in memory of the late founding president Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, expresses deep wounds over his passing and the subsequent events unfolding within the party.

The Northern UTM supporters have firmly opposed the “unjustifiable” decisions made by the party’s current leadership, which they claim were not influenced by proper consultation, but rather by “feelings and emotions.”

The group has since urged the “errant party officials to reconsider the decision to disband the Tonse Alliance”, stating that it goes against the dreams and visions of Dr. Chilima and future generations.

Furthermore, the group has distanced themselves from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and any alliances related to it, declaring “DPP Never Again” and denouncing the suffering endured by Northerners during the DPP regime including a massacre of 21 people on 20 July in 2011.

The message, signed off with the slogans “Osaopa, Osatopa, Osafooka,” underscores the deep divide within the UTM ranks and the growing condemnation from the Northern supporters over the recent actions taken by the party’s partial leadership.

The group has made it clear that they will not allow anyone to turn UTM supporters into “commodities” and that they stand firm in their commitment to the party’s founding principles and the legacy of their departed party founder and leader.
