No Room for Betrayal: Chakwera Exposes Enemies of Progress Driving Up Prices

Lazarus Chakwera

President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has once again shown the mark of true leadership, condemning the enemies of progress who hoard essential goods and drive up prices at the expense of poor Malawians.

Speaking at Mpingu Trading Centre in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Chakwera warned that hoarding is nothing short of sabotage against the people. “We must be patriotic and love one another. Hoarding goods does not show love for this country nor for each other. And I must warn here, that once you’re caught you will face the long arm of the law,” Chakwera declared, drawing thunderous applause.

The President said it was painful that rural communities, who already struggle, are the hardest hit when a few greedy hands manipulate the economy. To Chakwera, this is not business — it is betrayal.

In the same vein, Chakwera condemned the plague of substandard projects carried out in some districts, calling them a direct assault on taxpayers. “My government is determined to construct infrastructure that will last for years. I therefore urge the District Commissioners to be inspecting the projects that are implemented in their districts so that the quality and standards agreed should be maintained,” he said, underscoring his resolve to build Malawi on solid foundations, not shortcuts.

Minister of Gender and aspiring MP, Jean Sendeza, saluted Chakwera for empowering women and youth through initiatives like the NEEF loans, which she said have transformed countless lives.

As Malawi heads into elections, Chakwera’s words carry the weight of a leader committed to justice and national development, while his opponents remain exposed as agents of destruction — siding with hoarders, shielding corruption, and undermining progress.

With Chakwera, the choice is clear: patriotism and progress over greed and chaos.
