Four members of Parliament belonging to the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have been suspended from attending parliamentary deliberations for misconduct and hooliganism contrary to the Parliament Standing Orders. The four are legislators for Mangochi Central, Victoria Kingstone, Neno North, Thoko Tembo, and Thyolo Thava, Mary Navitcha. The four have been suspended for 2 days each with all allowances for the two days forfeited.’
On Monday, the Speaker cracked her whip suspending for 14 days the Member of Parliament for Mulanje South East, Naomi Kilekwa whose allowances for the said fortnight stand forfeited. The suspended members according to the Speaker said was due to the gross misconduct they displayed while President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was delivering the State of the Nation Address last Friday.
In the meantime, the vocal Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale, Victor Musowa, has been issued with a verbal warning for being a party to the Friday chaotic scenes in parliament.
