Mzuzu University closes following fees must fall unrest

Following the impromptu demonstrations staged by students of Mzuzu University over tuition fees hike concerns, the University registrar Yonamu Ngwira has announced in a statement that the University has closed with immediate effect.

“With a view to preserving public order and protecting University property, the Mzuzu University Council has directed the immediate closure of the University.

“On campus students are therefore ordered to leave the campus by 5 pm on Saturday 16th September, 2023. No student shall be allowed entry into the campus during the closure period,” reads the statement.

The statement concludes:

“Students will be communicated on the date of re-opening and the conditions for their return to the University.
