Mumba: “We Are Fighting in Victory” as MCP Warns of Opposition Propaganda

President Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba has assured supporters that the ruling party is firmly on course for victory, dismissing opposition propaganda as short-lived and unsustainable.

Writing on his Facebook page late Wednesday, Mumba declared: “Remember this: we are not fighting for victory but we are fighting in victory.” He urged MCP followers to remain calm, saying the only people who should stay alert through the night are those guarding votes, as attempts to tamper with tally sheets could not be ruled out.

Mumba accused the opposition of recycling old tactics from 2014, claiming their propaganda had collapsed within hours because this year’s electoral process will take more than a week to finalize. “The life span of such propaganda is very short, that is why from 4pm today, there has been no more propaganda,” he wrote.

He warned that as truth begins to unfold in the coming days, the opposition may attempt to incite violence or mobilize vendors for demonstrations. However, he likened the situation to the Biblical Lazarus, suggesting that by Friday—four days after voting—MCP’s lead will be undeniable. “On the fourth day after voting, a clear picture will be very visible, and some will realize what we mean by ‘wadya ntoliro’,” Mumba wrote, signing off with a “blessed night.”

With official results yet to be announced, Mumba’s statement is being seen as both a show of confidence in MCP’s performance at the ballot and a warning against opposition attempts to destabilize the post-election atmosphere.
