Mtambo says Peace and Unity Bill crucial in implementing Malawi 2063 agenda

Civic Education and National Unity Minister Timothy Mtambo

Minister of Civic Education and National Unity Timothy Mtambo has indicated that the Peace and Unity Bill, which is expected to be tabled in parliament this month, will play a crucial role in promoting the Malawi 2063 agenda.

The Minister said this during the presentation ceremony of the Bill to different stakeholders including chiefs and religious leaders in Mzuzu.

“Development cannot thrive where people are not living in harmony,” said Mtambo.

The bill will pave way for the formation of a Malawi Peace and Unity Commission.

The Minister said the core duty of the Commission will be to foster dialogue within political, cultural or religious circles for a better Malawi.

Mtambo, who also played a crucial role in dethroning the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), further urged chiefs and religious leaders in the country to continue fostering peace and unity for improved service delivery.

Commenting, Senior Chief Mwankhunikira of Rumphi District said as chiefs they have welcomed the bill and further urged Members of Parliament to vote for the bill for continued development.

The Peace and Unity Bill is expected to be presented in Parliament for deliberations soon this month.
