Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also the National Director of Youth in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has urged Malawi Congress Party Youths and youths across the country to work hard and be visionary for a better future of the party and the nation at large.
Speaking during the meeting held at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Bunda campus MCP wing on Saturday, Chimwendo encouraged the students to work hard in their studies in order to become responsible citizens for the country.
Chimwendo commended the wing for being a shining example of students’ political wings in the country.
Further, Chimwendo who is also Minister of Youth and Sports assured the students that internship program will continue for University graduates, adding that President Chakwera has raised the student’s welfare allowance and that the President has above all increased the number of beneficiaries to the loan facility program which has reduced challenges some students have been encountering to access better education.
Said Chimwendo; “During Kamuzu time, Bunda was really Bunda, you know how students’ welfare was prioritized. All these years there was nothing happening, when Chakwera came into power, he found 13,000 students receiving loans, but he has raised that to 22,000. Apart from that, he has raised students’ welfare from K200, 000 to K350, 000.”
Chimwendo then reminded the students that President Lazarus Chakwera found a lot of mess in government when he was voted into power and that he is slowly rebuilding the nation from the mess, and that it is at the foundation level from the ruins.
In his remarks, President for LUANAR MCP wing, Romeo Soko thanked Chimwendo Banda for his continued support being rendered to the wing. Soko also commended Chakwera-led administration for prioritizing the students welfare.
Speaking earlier before Chimwendo, District Chairman for Lilongwe East, Leonard Mwase thanked the DOY for visiting MCP Bunda wing, saying his visit is a motivation to the wing. Mwase also thanked President Lazarus Chakwera for various developments he is initiating and implementing in the country.
Also present during the event was a Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South, Peter Dimba, among other party officials.
