The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has confirmed that the eagerly awaited presidential election results will be officially announced tomorrow, Wednesday, at 2:00 PM.

Speaking to the press on Sunday evening, MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa said the Commission will not be providing any further updates today, as it finalises the verification and collation of results from across the country.

“The Malawi Electoral Commission will announce presidential election results tomorrow at 2:00 PM. The Commission will not have any update today,” said Mwafulirwa.

MEC has been working within the legal timeframe provided by the Constitution, which allows up to eight days after voting for results to be declared, with the possibility of an extension of three days in special circumstances.

The announcement will bring an end to days of speculation, tension, and unofficial tallies circulating in the media and on social platforms. With the contest seen as one of the tightest in recent memory, the official declaration is expected to shape the next political chapter of the country.

Security has been heightened around MEC’s National Tally Centre in BICC ahead of Monday’s announcement, with both domestic and international observers urging political parties and their supporters to remain calm and wait for the official results.
