The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has welcomed the latest survey by the Institute for Public Opinion and Research (IPOR), saying the results show that Malawians are standing firmly behind President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the MCP as the country moves closer to the September 16 elections.
MCP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Jessie Kabwila, said the report confirms that Chakwera’s leadership is trusted, respected, and gaining momentum across the nation. She said the survey is clear proof that Malawians are responding to President Chakwera’s servant leadership and vision for development. According to her, the wind is blowing in MCP’s favor and the people’s support is growing every day.
The survey shows that MCP’s stronghold in the Central Region remains unshakable, with projections suggesting that President Chakwera could secure more than 80 percent of the vote there. It also shows that MCP is expanding across the country, with its support rising by five points nationwide while competitors continue to lose ground. Even in areas that were once difficult for MCP, such as the South, East, and the Lower Shire, the party’s campaign is now gaining traction and winning new ground.
The same report reveals that undecided voters are breaking towards MCP, especially in the Northern Region where the party has already made significant progress. If elections were held today, the survey suggests that MCP could command up to 79 percent of the vote in the North.
Dr. Kabwila emphasized that while the survey results are encouraging, MCP will not take anything for granted. She stressed that the party remains focused, disciplined, and determined to work until the very last day. Malawians, she said, can clearly see the difference between President Chakwera’s development agenda and the disunity and confusion within the opposition.
Political observers argue that the IPOR findings reflect what is already happening on the ground. MCP rallies are drawing massive crowds across the country, while opposition parties appear weakened and disorganized.
With growing support nationwide and undecided voters shifting in its favor, MCP is confident of securing a clear and decisive victory for President Chakwera on September 16.
