MCP makes final pitch for Counsellor Seat ahead of Tuesday’s Mtiya Ward by-election in Zomba

MCP Mega Rally at Mtiya Ward

Mtiya Ward in Zomba, undoubtedly a stronghold of the opposition, presents a significant test for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to determine whether it can effectively leverage the advantage of incumbency in the 2025 elections. This explains why the MCP has been making a strenuous effort to secure the Zomba-Mtiya Ward Counselor seat in the upcoming by-election scheduled for next Tuesday.

Prominent MCP campaign strategists, including Richard Chimwendo Banda, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, and Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka, have immersed themselves in an intense campaign at Mtiya Ward.

Before hosting a major final rally on Saturday in the Ward ahead of next week’s by-election, Mkaka commissioned various development projects in the domain of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba, the epicenter of the by-election. These projects encompassed a water project at Mtendere Clinic and the installation of electricity at the same location.

During the event, Hon Mkaka encouraged the residents of Mtiya Ward to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes for Humphery Labeti during the upcoming Tuesday by-election.

Following this, the party conducted a grand rally to formally conclude the campaign period. Director of Youth Hon Richard Chimwendo Banda and Hon Ken Zikhale Ng’oma energetically employed their political skills to garner support for their candidate.

Should the MCP manage to secure positions in regions historically regarded as difficult to win, it could potentially pave the way for a smoother victory in the 2025 general elections.
