The special committee overseeing the funeral arrangements for the late Malawian political icon, John Zenus Ungapake Tembo, has announced that he will be laid to rest in his hometown of Dedza on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Chairing the program announcement in Lilongwe, Albert Mbawala, the committee’s chairperson, informed the nation that on Monday, October 2, the late Tembo’s body will be transported from Goodwill Mortuary and will be available for public viewing at the MCP’s Headquarters. Subsequently, it will be taken to his residence in Area 10, Lilongwe, for a night vigil.
Furthermore, Mbawala stated that on Tuesday, October 3, the late Tembo’s body will be taken to the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) Malawi Square for eulogies and prayers before making the final journey to his hometown of Dedza for burial on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
John Tembo, who passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, was a former President of the Malawi Congress Party, the longest-serving Member of the Malawi Parliament, and also held the position of Leader of the Opposition during the multiparty era, after serving in various roles under Kamuzu.
