Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday participated in the celebrations of the centenary of the Chiwembe Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, which was founded by a dedicated group of Adventists in Traditional Authority Kapeni, Blantyre. The event, themed ‘Prepare Yourself, Jesus Is Approaching,’ kicked off 13 days ago with a series of crusades at Njamba Freedom Park.
During his address at the celebration, President Chakwera praised the SDA Church for its ongoing contributions to agriculture, healthcare, and education, emphasizing their significance in shaping a new Malawi.
“Through its mission of spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, advocating for mind-set change and repentance, we have seen the church complementing government’s efforts in development by building hospitals to improve health care service delivery, schools and also supporting technical and vocational skills to benefit youths in Malawi,” he said.
He encouraged the SDA Church to continue investing more in infrastructure, health and agriculture, precisely in mega farms until Jesus comes.
SDA Malawi Union Conference President, Pastor Tony Nyirenda thanked President Chakwera for gracing the celebration and for supporting the church by patronising a number of the church’s activities.
He said SDA Church is committed to work with government in various sectors including in health care service delivery and education to compliment government’s development aspirations.
President Chakwera and the First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera have donated K2 million towards Chiwembe Church building project and also supported the crusade with K3 million.
