Malawi Pres. Chakwera to attend least developed countries summit in Doha

Chakwera flying to Doha tomorrow

Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will tomorrow be flying to Qatar’s capital Doha for the least developed countries summit. This was disclosed by the Director of Communication at State House Sean Kampondeni.

Chakwera’s trip to Doha has also been announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In a statement, Chakwera will depart through Kamuzu International Airport on Thursday, 2nd March 2023 at 8:10 a.m. for Doha, State of Qatar to attend the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from 4th to 9th March 2023.

The statement further says that President Chakwera will attend the meeting in his capacity as Global Chairperson of the Coordinating Bureau of the Least Developed Countries.

“Importantly, the objectives of the Doha Programme of Action are well aligned with the Malawi 2063, and will, therefore, complement Malawi’s development journey,” said the statement.

It added that apart from the main Conference itself, President Chakwera will also attend various side events and hold bilateral meetings with representatives of various governments and international organizations in order to promote Malawi’s interests.
