Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the new Protea Hotel Lilongwe Ryalls, commending all local companies that came together to invest in the project.

Standing at the grounds of the Lilongwe Golf Club, where the grand structure is rapidly taking shape, the President hailed the project as a bold testament to Malawian ingenuity, unity, and economic ambition.

“If it already looks this good before it’s finished, imagine the masterpiece we’ll have once it’s complete,” Chakwera said, his voice echoing with optimism.

The President praised local investors, including Nico and Blantyre Hotels, for demonstrating a rare and powerful spirit of self-reliance in a time when many economies lean heavily on foreign capital. In a strong show of leadership, Chakwera pledged unwavering government support to ensure access to critical foreign exchange for the project’s smooth completion, a move that drew praise from business leaders.

Blantyre Hotels Chairperson Vizenge Kumwenda applauded the administration for prioritizing local participation in tourism development but gently called on the Ministry of Local Government to consider relocating a nearby minibus depot that could compromise the hotel’s ambiance. With 180 stylish rooms and cutting-edge conference amenities on the horizon, Protea Hotel Lilongwe Ryalls isn’t just another development — it’s a signal that Malawi, under Chakwera’s watch, is ready to compete on the global tourism stage.
