The Malawi women’s national team fondly known as the Scorchers have been rewarded by the first citizen of this country, President Lazarus Chakwera. He has since given them 1.5 million kwacha and designated a plot to each player from the Ministry of Lands. Chakwera rewarded the team members after having a luncheon with the team at Kamuzu palace on Wednesday.
“I was privileged to host a luncheon for the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, fondly known as Scorchers, in honour of their recent exploits at the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship, where they emerged as champions. The entire nation celebrates this patriotic and historic feat which has begotten collective pride, unity and joy to us all.
“As a token of appreciation to the players and the entire technical panel, I have gifted them K1.5 million and a designated plot each. Thank you Scorchers! Your discipline and success motivates this generation and those to come of the attributes we all need to build a new and better Malawi,” wrote President Chakwera on his Facebook page.
