Malawi Pres. Chakwera Backs New Mobile Health Revolution for Malawi’s Poorest with U.S. Partner

Ruderman Family Foundation

Malawi President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has thrown his full support behind a groundbreaking partnership that promises to bring modern, mobile healthcare to some of Malawi’s most forgotten communities. Speaking from Kamuzu Palace on Tuesday, the President praised the Ruderman Family Foundation — a U.S.-based philanthropic group — for launching a health programme that will take medical technology and services directly to hard-to-reach areas.

Led by Jay and Shira Ruderman, the foundation is rolling out advanced mobile clinics, introducing tools like mobile X-rays to detect TB, and preparing to offer eye surgeries in Zomba. Hannah Friedland, who oversees the health programs, said this new plan is all about making sure no Malawian is left behind, even in places where hospitals are a distant dream.

President Chakwera called the initiative a big step toward fixing Malawi’s healthcare gaps and said it reflects the kind of innovation his government wants to champion. With Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chaponda also present, the meeting ended with high hopes that this partnership will spark more life-changing projects for the people who need them most.
