BLANTYRE-Malawi Government, through Minister of Information Gospel Kazako, has revealed that Malawians will soon be accessing non-expiry data bundles.
Mobile companies in Malawi provide data bundles that have time limit, a move that has recently received strong criticisms from the general public describing it as “a ploy to rip customers.
But while praising the information ministry for making strides in data bundle reforms, Kazako said talks are underway with mobile operators on how best to achieve the introduction of non-expiry data bundles.
Apart from the operators, he said the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is undertaking a market analysis to review the current cost of services and products in the ICT sector.
He however mentioned some deals government struck in the past which he termed “bad” and denied Malawians their right to cheap ICT services.
Presenting his statement in the august house Kazako was quick to mention that the current administration has put priority on ensuring that ICT deals are responding to needs of people.
