In a show of strong support, the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia has saluted the leadership of Malawi’s President, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, for his unwavering resilience in transforming the country, despite facing various forms of resistance.
During a meeting between the Clergy from the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia and the President at the Mzuzu State Lodge, the Synod’s General Secretary, Reverend William Tembo, recognized Chakwera’s good working relationship with the late former Vice President, Rt. Hon. Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
“We followed you and the late vice president so closely. This is the first time for a sitting president to work in harmony with his vice. On this we give you 10 out of 10,” said Tembo.
Reverend Tembo thanked the President for practicing clean politics, emphasizing that the country has pressing socio-economic matters to focus on: “We also thank you for practicing clean politics”, he said.
The Synod also expressed its support for Chakwera’s “Vision Malawi 2063” agenda, with Reverend Tembo stating, “We will not be there, but we want a bright future for our grandchildren.”
Additionally, the general secretary praised Chakwera for facilitating higher tobacco prices this year, rehabilitating and reviving the once-defunct railway transport system, and addressing the issue of electricity blackouts.
“Bring back all the good things that Malawi lost sometime back. We saw a train offloading fuel in Lilongwe from Blantyre. We also want the fruits of railway transport here. On this we also give you 10 out of 10,” the clergyman further remarked.
Reverend Tembo, who was in a company of the Livingstonia Synod leaders, also commended the President for creating opportunities for Malawian children to work in Israel, and assured him of the Synod’s continued support in developing the country.
In his response, President Chakwera expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to convene with the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia’s leadership, stating that his administration will continue to work closely with the Synod to make Malawi a better place to live.
Shire Times senior political and social commentator, Joseph Masina, has underscored that “this endorsement from the faith leaders underscores the growing confidence in Chakwera’s leadership and his efforts to transform Malawi’s socio-economic landscape”.
