The Shire Times has learnt that Gideon Munthali, the former Information Director, is among the 49 prisoners who received a presidential pardon from President Lazarus Chakwera during Easter festivities a week ago.
Munthali’s attorney, Chrispine Mndala, verified this development, stating, “Yes, I can confirm that my client has been released, and that is all I can disclose at this time.”
Munthali was apprehended alongside former Information Minister Henry Mussa regarding the disappearance of 10 computers and a generator donated to the Ministry by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra). He was convicted in October 2022 on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, theft by a public servant, and receiving stolen property.
