GERALD KAZEMBE: THE MAN OF THE PEOPLE MANGOCHI–MONKEY BAY IS BLESSED TO HAVE

Gerald Kazembe

In an era where politics is often reduced to personal gain, empty promises, and seasonal appearances, Honourable Gerald Kazembe stands tall as a rare breed of leader, a true man of the people. Such leaders have a special place. Hon. Gerald Kazembe, the Member of Parliament for Mangochi–Monkey Bay Constituency, distinguished himself remarkably on the road to the 2025 elections, not merely through rhetoric, but through consistent action and unwavering commitment to the people he serves.

Kazembe’s political journey has not been smooth. In the 2019 general elections, he narrowly lost the parliamentary seat to the DPP’s Ralph Jooma. Like any citizen seeking justice, he challenged the outcome in court. Unfortunately, the ruling went against his prayer. For many politicians, that would have marked the end, an excuse to disappear, sulk, or distance themselves from the electorate until the next election cycle.

But Gerald Kazembe chose a different path.

What sets him apart, and elevates him above many parliamentarians, is that he never abandoned the people of Mangochi–Monkey Bay after that defeat. He refused to punish voters for an electoral outcome. Instead, he deepened his engagement with the constituency, maintaining close contact with the very people whose trust he values most.

Without holding office, and without the privileges of incumbency, Kazembe acted as if he were already the Member of Parliament. He initiated and supported tangible projects in water and sanitation, food security, and job creation. Boreholes were drilled. Communities accessed clean water. Livelihoods were supported. Hope was restored.

Ironically, and tellingly, Gerald Kazembe became more visible in the constituency than the sitting MP himself. While others were preoccupied with titles and privileges, Kazembe was in the villages, listening, working, and responding to real needs on the ground.
This is not politics of self-enrichment. This is politics of service.

Gerald Kazembe’s leadership is driven by passion, not greed; by empathy, not entitlement. His actions demonstrate a deep understanding that leadership is not defined by winning elections alone, but by standing with the people in both victory and defeat. He embodies servant leadership in its purest form.

Indeed, Mangochi–Monkey Bay is in safe hands. It is a constituency blessed to have a leader whose heart beats for the welfare of its people. Gerald Kazembe has proven, beyond doubt, that he is not just a politician, he is a man of the people.

History will remember him kindly. The people already do.
