Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, the French Minister for Development, Francophonie, and International Partnerships, has committed to providing increased assistance to the Home-grown School Meals Programme in Malawi.
Dr. Zacharopoulou made this commitment during her visit to Mphunzi Primary School in Dedza, where she expressed appreciation for the Home-grown School Feeding Programme administered by the World Food Programme (WFP).
“My government has a strong commitment to supporting Home-grown School Meals Programme, this year 2023, we allocated €1 million equivalent to K1.2 billion for Home-grown School Meals Programme in Malawi,” she said.
On his part, WFP Representative and Country Director, Paul Turnbull, said providing daily meals is a powerful motivating factor for learners to attend and remain in school.
Commenting on the development, Principal Secretary for Basic Education in Malawi, Dr Rachel Chimbwete-Phiri, hailed the French Government for supporting the education sector in Malawi.
