The story published by The Daily Times claiming that Kamuzu Palace is in a state of disrepair is false, misleading, and driven by propaganda. The headline and pictures circulating on social media are designed to mislead Malawians and paint a bad image of the previous administration and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
The pictures being shared on the social media are not from Kamuzu Palace at all — they are taken from Google. The journalist who published this story deliberately ignored these facts and presented them as if they were from the main palace buildings, clearly working under instructions to create a false impression.
As Honourable Baba Steven Malondera explained, there was a proper handover process between the former Household Manager, Mrs. Msiska, and the current one, Mrs. Raisi. This process covered Kamuzu Palace, Mtunthama, and Sanjika State Houses, while other residences like Chikoko Bay and Mzuzu are still pending. If indeed there was “vandalism,” the responsible authorities can easily produce verified reports showing who occupied which houses and in what condition.
It is also worth noting that some support houses at the State Residences had maintenance issues long before—in 2020, some staff even had to fix their own toilets and basic facilities, but nobody raised any alarm then. The presidential residences themselves, however, remain intact and in good condition.
The recent wave of stories claiming “filth and vandalism” at the State House appears to be a planned psychological tactic to justify future spending—possibly billions of kwacha—under the pretext of “renovating” the residences. Malawians must stay alert and not fall into this trap aimed at preparing the nation for another round of financial plunder.
The truth is simple:
Kamuzu Palace is not in disrepair, the pictures circulating are misleading, and the story in The Daily Times is a politically motivated fabrication meant to deceive the public and smear the MCP.
