DPP MPs Betray Party, Secretly Back MCP – Suleman Sounds the Alarm!

Sameer Suleman

In a jaw-dropping twist, Blantyre City South East MP Sameer Suleman has dropped a bombshell, claiming it’s game over for the DPP as their own MPs are now throwing their weight behind the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The explosive allegations came right after the passing of Malawi’s historic 2025/2026 national budget, a colossal K8.7 trillion, in the national assembly.

But the real drama erupted over the K67 billion allocation for State Residences, where Suleman boldly proposed slashing the figure to K20 billion. Despite his efforts, MPs—including DPP members—voted in favor of the full allocation, a move that left Suleman fuming.

Storming out of Parliament, the embattled MP didn’t mince his words: “The DPP MPs have sold out. Some MPs are openly working with MCP.”

A political commentator stated:

“It’s no wonder people are saying MCP will form the next government! Even the DPP MPs themselves know it’s impossible to beat Dr. Chakwera. He’s a strategic genius, while Peter Mutharika, because of his age, has become politically impotent. He’s leading the party to its grave!”

Suleman’s fiery statements have set the political stage ablaze, sparking conversations across the nation about a potential realignment ahead of the next elections. Could this signal the inevitable end of the DPP?

Meanwhile, in Parliament, Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda reassured the house that additional funds had been allocated to crucial sectors. The Ministry of Health secured K396 billion, Agriculture received K667 billion, and the National Assembly operations were boosted with K57 billion. Infrastructure compensation under the Millennium Challenge Account also received a much-needed top-up.

With such revelations, the political winds in Malawi are shifting fast, and Suleman’s claims have raised questions about where loyalties truly lie ahead of the upcoming elections.
