The infighting in the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has reached its crescendo as the High Court in Lilongwe has intervened and granted Charles Mchacha an injunction stopping DPP president Peter Mutharika from removing him from his post as Regional Governor of the party representing the southern region.
Peter Mutharika recently fired Mchacha and replaced him with Thompson Kamangira.
In the injunction, the court has directed that there should be a hearing from both parties within 28 days.
Mutharika fired him for what it described as a strategic move in preparation for the 2025 tripartite elections. However, sources claim, Mchacha was allegedly fired for opposing a 2025 presidential bid for Mutharika.
