Chilima emulates his boss Pres. Chakwera; donates K1 million to war veterans

Vice President Chilima and Henry Odillo

Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, emulating President Lazarus Chakwera yesterday, contributed K1 million to the Veterans and Ex-service League of Malawi (VELOM) to assist war veterans.

Chilima presented the donation when receiving the second poppy on Tuesday at the Office of the Vice President in Lilongwe. He praised VELOM for its dedication to caring for war veterans.

“Taking care of war beterans is one way of appreciating their service to the nation,” added Chilima.

The Chairperson of VELOM, General Henry Odillo (Retired), expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the private sector to the organization. However, he also made an appeal for increased support to aid the veterans. During the 2023 Poppy Appeal Week on October 27, Odillo revealed that their goal for this year is to raise K100 Million. These funds will be used to maintain the residences for war veterans at the War Memorial Home in Zomba.

Pres. Chakwera already supported VELOM substantially recently.
