Chakwera’s Presidential Golf Tournament for Needy Students and Disaster Victims Kicks Off in Lilongwe

 

The 2023 Presidential Charity Golf Tournament has kicked off today at the Lilongwe Golf Club with President Chakwera swinging the launch.

The State House had announced earlier on that the Republican President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, had undertaken special personal training to ensure he performs at his best on the golf course during the event.

The remarked highlighted its meaning today when the Malawi leader showcased his esoteric golfing skill never seen in him before as he marked the launch of the tournament.

Supporting the President’s cause which seeks to raise funds for both Cyclone Freddy survivors and to provide tuition fees for needy students at public and private universities nationwide are companies and organizations which are sponsoring the tournament.

A minimum K400 million is on target and the State House spokesperson, Anthony Kasunda, had earlier announced that the targeted amount was reached through pledges from the sponsoring organizations and companies before the tournament could kickoff.

The inaugural Presidential Charity Golf Tournament was launched last year, raising approximately K280 million, which was then donated to aid those affected by the destruction caused by Cyclone Freddy.

The State President is this year’s tournament partnering with the State Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, for the entire 18-hole golf competition.
