BLANTYRE – President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s decisive leadership in disaster management is winning global goodwill, as Save the Children steps up with a massive K161 million donation in non-food relief supplies to Malawi’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA).
The essential aid—destined for the Bangula Humanitarian Staging Area in Nsanje—aims to boost Malawi’s preparedness for future crises. DoDMA’s Director of Preparedness and Response, Moses Chimphepo, assured the nation that these supplies will be used effectively when disaster strikes.
Save the Children’s Chakufwa Munthali highlighted the donation’s alignment with government efforts to fortify national disaster resilience. The package includes blankets, laundry soap, dignity kits, and psychosocial materials such as books—underscoring the urgent need for both physical relief and mental well-being support in affected communities.
With climate disasters hitting Malawi harder and more frequently, this partnership showcases the power of strong leadership and global solidarity in protecting the nation’s most vulnerable.
