Chakwera Supercharges Malawi-Germany Economic Alliance in High-Impact European Tour

Chakwera in Germany

Malawi’s President, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has touched down in Germany following his visit to Rome, continuing his strategic European tour aimed at deepening diplomatic, trade, and investment ties across critical economic sectors. Accompanied by First Lady Monica Chakwera, the President received a warm welcome at Frankfurt International Airport from German officials and representatives of the Malawian mission in Berlin.

In Germany, President Chakwera’s focus is on unlocking investment opportunities to harness Malawi’s potential in key areas such as inland shipping on Lake Malawi, port infrastructure, and hydraulic engineering. As part of this agenda, he toured Harbour Square and boarded the Primus Linie Ship, where he engaged in high-level talks with leading German shipping companies.

These discussions culminated in the signing of several pivotal agreements, including enhanced cooperation and support, as well as internship opportunities for Malawian scholars in inland shipping, port operations, bulk cargo, and hydraulic engineering sectors.

These investments are a testament to President Chakwera’s ambitious vision of transforming Malawi into an industrialized nation, with a thriving blue economy anchored by a reliable water transport system.

Recognizing tourism as a vital engine of economic growth, President Chakwera also engaged German investors on the strategic development of infrastructure along Lake Malawi, aimed at attracting both local and international tourists.

The President and First Lady are now en route to Berlin, where the Malawian leader will embark on a series of official engagements over the next two days, further solidifying Malawi’s relationship with Germany.
