Chakwera with Germany Officials

President Lazarus Chakwera’s visit to Germany is already yielding significant results, with the latest milestone being a landmark agreement with a German shipping company to construct a state-of-the-art ship for Malawi. Today, another pivotal deal was secured with Lübeck University, outlining a roadmap for collaboration aimed at strengthening Malawi’s health sector. This partnership will see the University providing specialized training for Malawian nurses and midwives in the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases.

Earlier, President Chakwera met with Niels Annen, Germany’s Vice Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. The President was particularly pleased with the Minister’s keen understanding and support for Malawi’s recently adopted Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy. Annen committed to assisting Malawi in addressing climate-related social and economic challenges through a blend of bilateral initiatives and multinational frameworks, including the EU and other global institutions.
