The Chakwera administration has taken on the formidable task of revitalizing Lilongwe, the capital city, to elevate it to its deserved status. In the shadows of neglect left by the previous regime under Peter Mutharika, which focused narrowly on certain areas, the city languished, much to the dismay of Malawians. This neglect was a contributing factor to Mutharika’s ousting from the presidency in 2020.
Undeterred by past shortcomings, the current government is forging ahead with ambitious projects aimed at transforming Lilongwe’s landscape. Notable among these endeavors are the construction of the Kamuzu Central Hospital Interchange, City Mall Round-About, New Lilongwe Bridge in Old Town, and the expansion of Kenyatta Drive into a Six Lane Highway.
These efforts signify a pivotal moment in Lilongwe’s history, heralding a future where the capital will finally reflect the grandeur and functionality befitting of a city.
And with this development, the residents of the capital Lilongwe are expected to thank Chakwera via the ballot in 2025.
