In a scene fit for history books, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera today launched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) campaign in the Northern Region at Mzimba Stadium — a symbolic return to the land that played a key role in his 2020 election victory.
With drums beating and ululations filling the air, Chakwera told the cheering crowd that the journey they began in 2020 is far from over. “The 2025–2030 Development Agenda is our promise to finish what we started — and do even more,” he said, outlining plans for major infrastructure like the Orton Chirwa International Airport and Inkosi M’mbelwa University, youth job creation, winter farming, and strong local governance.
Posting on his Facebook page, the President wrote, “Today, I officially launched the MCP campaign in the North — a region whose trust in 2020 laid the foundation for the progress we are building together… Together, we will go further.”
In his fiery address, MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda warned people not to believe opposition lies — especially claims that the government plans to give K500,000 to newborns. “That’s a complete misunderstanding,” Chimwendo said. “This is about helping children save for the future — not handing out cash like sweet potatoes.”
Chimwendo ended by saying MCP works on the ground, not just on Facebook. “People love Chakwera. That’s why he will win.”
As the campaign gains steam, one thing is clear: President Chakwera is not just running — he is leading the race.
