The caring Chakwera-led administration has pledged that it will continue providing maize and essential non-food supplies to individuals impacted by Cyclone Freddy within the nation. This was disclosed by during a donation event sourced from SOS Children Villages to survivors of Cyclone Freddy in the Blantyre District. Cosmas Mangoka, the Disaster Risk Management Officer for the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) in Blantyre District assured the Cyclone Freddy survivors that they will not walk alone to their recovery destination as evidenced by the donation they received.
As part of the relief efforts, each survivor has been provided with a bag of maize and additional food items, with the total value of the distributed items amounting to K50 million.
“This is a continuation programme which will see all families who did not harvest enough for themselves including those affected by Cyclone Freddy receiving a bag of maize and other items,” said Mangoka.
On their part, SOS Programme Coordinator Alexander Nguwo emphasized the importance of cooperation in addressing challenges experienced by the people of Malawi. He encouraged other Non-Governmental Organizations to take inspiration from this act.
Around 500 households in the area will receive assistance from this donation.
