In a courtroom drama fit for the ages, the extradition saga of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, unfolded yesterday as South Africa’s key witness, Sibongile Mzinyathi, who is the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for Gauteng province, took to the stand.
Led by the formidable Wapona Kita, the defense unleashed a torrent of revelations, exposing over 21 instances of tampering and doctoring in the freshly tendered evidence of the extradition request.
With surgical precision, Kita argued that according to the law, the authentic document for authentication should be the original extradition request tendered in 2020. He boldly asserted that the purported document presented to the court had been manipulated to suit a preconceived narrative.
During the intense cross-examination, Mzinyathi’s responses consisted solely of “Yes” to each probing question posed by Kita, inadvertently conceding ground that could prove advantageous to Bushiri in the grand scheme.
Meanwhile, the state prosecutor, Dzikondianthu Malunda, expressed satisfaction that the South African state witness had taken the stand, anticipating further clarification once the defense concludes its cross-examination on Tuesday.
