Ben Phiri says Africa Breeding Unskilled and Unproductive Generation

Ben Phiri

African Members of Parliament have issued a stark warning that the continent is on the verge of producing an unproductive generation as the unskilled population continues to swell.

Ben Phiri, Chairperson of the African Parliament on Population and Sexual Reproductive Health, declared that the committee has resolved that for Africa to achieve development by 2030, urgent attention must be given to population issues and the enhancement of skilled labor.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 9th African Population Conference in Lilongwe, Phiri highlighted that Africa’s vast, unused lands stand in contrast to a rapidly growing population lacking productive skills.

He urged governments to allocate more resources toward controlling population growth and ensuring skill development among the populace.
