AFORD condemns recent violence on DPP

The Alliance for Democracy-AFORD has joined the chorus of political parties condemning the recent assaults on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members who sought to organize a planned parade in Lilongwe on Saturday.

In a statement issued by AFORD National Publicity Secretary, Amatullah Annie Maluwa, the party vehemently denounces these attacks and urges law enforcement agencies to wield their authority to ensure that all responsible individuals are brought to justice.

“The witnessed scale and gravity of these attacks mark a worrying escalation of violence, no cause can justify such brutality and senseless attacks”, reads part of the statement.

AFORD also asserts that it perceives these actions as a deliberate mob endeavor aimed at obstructing the lawful exercise of the right to assembly as protected by the Constitution of the Republic.

On Saturday, unidentified individuals assaulted DPP members who had convened at Mbowe in Lilongwe to initiate what they termed a “blue parade,” intended to encourage their supporters to participate in the ongoing national ID registration campaign.
