Member of Parliament for Dowa East, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has affirmed his commitment to the ongoing construction of additional ADMARC depots in the constituency. The objective is to eliminate the need for residents to cover extended distances when purchasing maize, especially during the current lean season.
Chimwendo Banda conveyed this message during the official handover ceremony of the Maweru ADMARC Depot, a facility he constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). He expressed gratitude to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for increasing the CDF from K40 million to K100 million, emphasizing its transformative impact on constituencies.
ADMARC Chief Executive Officer, Dan Makata, provided assurance to the Maweru community that the depot would consistently maintain sufficient stock to obviate the necessity for long journeys in search of maize. Makata urged community members to take ownership of the ADMARC depot to enhance its effectiveness.
Chimwendo-Banda also pledged to facilitate the formation of a committee in the area to ensure that vendors do not exploit the facility, situated close to the main road, thereby safeguarding the people’s right to food.
Additionally, the legislator assured the nation that ADMARC, currently undergoing restructuring, would prioritize maintaining ample stock across all depots to facilitate seamless maize procurement for the public.
