Malawi Government Commits to Excellence with Service Delivery MOU

MOU

Colleen Zamba, the Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), emphasized the significance of collaboration to enhance the civil service’s effectiveness. This statement came following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Emerging Public Leadership (EPL) in Lilongwe, aiming to strengthen the civil service.

The SPC highlighted that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has identified youth involvement in improving public service performance as a crucial priority for fostering a dynamic economy.

“These are results of some of the sideline meetings President Chakwera had at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York United States of America where he met the officials of EPL,” Zamba said.

Abigail Kajumba, Executive Director of EPL, said through the Public Service Fellowship, they support in-country programmes that recruit Africa’s most promising future leaders and place them into meaningful civil service and public service positions.

She said that over two years, fellows are provided with the supervisory support, rigorous training and mentorship they need to launch and build a successful career in public service.

“Our organization was established 15 years ago to assist the youths so that they become reliable citizens in the public service,” Kajumba said.

Various principal secretaries attended the meeting. The EPL initiative which envisions a prosperous and equitable Africa, has a footprint in Liberia, Ghana and Kenya, and it intends to expand its Public Service Fellowship Programme and create a Pan-African network of 1500+ fellows by 2027.
