Malawi’s leader, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, is currently in transit, having departed New York, USA a few hours ago. This follows his participation in the highly successful United Nations General Assembly and other equally significant side meetings.
Before his departure, the President was bid farewell by Malawi’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Lieutenant General Clement Namangale, along with other officials from the Malawi Permanent Mission.
During his presence at the UNGA, President Dr. Chakwera delivered a speech to the assembly, urging development donors to forgive the debts of the Least Developed Countries in order to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He also engaged in one-on-one and group discussions and addressed various United Nations sessions, resulting in some partners committing to assist Malawi in areas such as agriculture, social cash transfers, and education, among others.
Chakwera is anticipated to touch down at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 7:30 AM.
