Mzuzu University (Mzuni) has launched on Friday launched an interactive application – being referred to as MiLab – that has been designed to aid learners in the physics and chemistry laboratory experiments without much effort.
According to Mzuni’s ICT Incubation Hub, the application is both portable and easily accessible as it has digitised materials for learning.
The innovation, which has been developed in conjunction with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) of the Ministry of Education is set to be shared in schools, especially community day secondary schools, in the country.
“The app which will be used for virtual labs in schools aims at giving access to more students to conduct experiments without using the traditional labs which more schools in the country do not have,” Education Principal Secretary, Chikondano Mussa, said.
She added: “Practical experience is an important aspect in the learning of science and the MiLab innovation comes in handy to promote science learning.”
UNDP Malawi Deputy Resident Representative, Challa Getachew, said the development of the app was phenomenal.
“The idea is to see the innovation benefit schools, communities and the private sector,” Getachew said.
The MiLab project began in March 2021, and has been made possible with technical and financial support from UNDP.
