The Vice president of the Republic of Malawi Saulos Klaus Chilima will address the nation ‘on emerging issues of national importance in his capacity as state Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and as President of UTM.”
One would think as Vice President of the Republic of Malawi that he would address the nation at his Capitol Hill Offices but the statement issued by the party’s spokesperson Frank Mwenefumbo late Monday night says he will address the nation at the party’s headquarters at Area 10 in the capital Lilongwe.
“The event will take place at UTM offices in Area 10 in Lilongwe-starting from 10 O’clock in the morning,” reads the statement in part.
As if there are reported cases of violence or panic in the country, the statement further says that the Vice President is “appealing for calm among UTM followers and all Malawians of goodwill throughout this period.”
The address by the Vice President comes in the wake of the decision the President Lazarus Chakwera took in technically firing the Vice President by stating that he would be withholding duties as the Vice President was implicated in a report the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) gave to the President indicating that the Vice President was involved in corrupt dealings with a British Citizen and businessman of Malawian origin Zuneth Sattar. The business stands arrested in the United Kingdom where he will likely be charged with money laundering by the prosecution agency there.
Chilima will therefore likely to make his position clear and try to remove the shameful corruption badge that he is now wearing following the President’s action in stripping him of his responsibilities on a corruption basis.
