Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has pledged to continue supporting government in the fight against the incessant Covid-19 pandemic in 2022.

Making the commitment through a New Year message to its customers and the general public, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the board, Engineer Titus Mtegha, said as much as the institution is facing financial challenges, it will continue to work with government in supporting hospitals in its supply area to help in the fight against the pandemic.

“In 2021, we worked with Government in the response to the Covid 19 pandemic. Among other things, we donated a number of equipment to referral hospitals in our supply area to aid in the fight against the pandemic. We will continue with the efforts. Cash flow remained one of our biggest challenges which greatly affected our operations in the wake of Covid 19 pandemic,” reads the statement.

The board added that in 2022, it will scale up efforts in cash collection while providing quality water services with sustainable supply and improved sanitation to its customers in the northern region.

In 2021, the board commissioned a new water treatment station with a capacity to produce 6 million litres of potable water per day at Ekwendeni Township in Mzimba, with a K24.5 billion funding from European Investment Bank; among other projects.
