Chakwera Cracks the Whip: Fuel Stations Ordered to Shut by 5 PM

Lazarus Chakwera
President Lazarus Chakwera’s government has shown once again that it won’t sit idle while Malawi struggles with fuel shortages. In a bold new move, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has ordered all filling stations nationwide to close at 5 PM sharp—a decision made under the direct instruction of the Office of the President and Cabinet.

MERA Chief Executive Officer Henry Kachaje delivered the marching orders with authority: “No fuel shall be sold beyond these hours. This measure is intended to ensure that fuel is managed prudently and that adequate supply is available for the following day.”
