MCP Primaries Set the Political Stage Ablaze: Jessie Kabwira Roars Back, Kunkuyu Reborn in Dedza, Lawyer Kadzipatike Breaks Through!

Kunkuyu come back

The ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) today hosted a political showdown across the country, where dreams were shattered and new stars were born. Here’s your front-row seat to the action-packed highlights of the day:

𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗮𝗿𝘀!
The Honourable George Jivason Kadzipatike, a sharp legal mind and advisor to MCP, claimed a resounding victory in Dowa Kasangadzi Constituency. Kadzipatike’s win seals his ticket to represent the MCP on the big stage, after conquering today’s intense primary election.

Over in Dedza, the Honourable Joshua Malango sent shockwaves across the political landscape by outpacing his rival Donald Kazanga. Malango amassed an impressive 1,302 votes, comfortably brushing aside Kazanga’s 1,079 votes in a race packed with suspense.

In Dedza Mlunduni, the Honourable Moses Kunkuyu, the current Minister of Information and Digitalisation, scripted an incredible comeback story. Once a political wanderer after losing out in Blantyre, Kunkuyu has now been welcomed back into the fold, bagging a decisive 1,072 votes. Meanwhile, sitting MP Honourable Onani was left nursing wounds after managing just 273 votes in a dramatic defeat.

Still in Dedza, Clement Mlombwa stood tall among the competition, securing 877 votes. His rivals – Emmanuel Mawindo (74 votes), Dalitso Duwe (67 votes), and James Kafotokoza (4 votes) – were left trailing far behind as Mlombwa confidently claimed the crown.

𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘂𝗱 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻
In Dowa South East, the Honourable Halima Daud clinched a solid victory, ensuring her political flame continues to shine brightly within the MCP ranks.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗯𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗮: 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗼 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿!

Higher Education Minister and MCP’s fierce Publicity Secretary, Jessie Kabwira, has stormed back into the political arena with a roar! She toppled the incumbent, Enock Phale Salima, with a landslide 1,310 votes against Phale’s 676.

Kabwira’s stunning win sends a strong message — the “Lioness of Academic Freedom” is not done yet! After her dramatic fall from grace five years ago, many had written her off. Her rise to Director of Publicity after defeating Ezekiel Ching’oma already signaled her resilience. Now, with this comeback, she proves once again she’s a political force to be reckoned with.

Her victory is especially painful for the opposition, many of whom had already begun spreading premature rumours of her defeat. Kabwira, a former University of Malawi English Lecturer and a fearless champion during the Academic Freedom saga, has now set her sights firmly on reclaiming the seat she once lost in 2019. With today’s triumph, her march back to Parliament is well and truly underway.
