In a heartening turn of events, recent reports from the auction floors reveal promising tidings, with a single bale of tobacco fetching an impressive MK800,000.
As for Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale, this surge in prices is attributed to the implementation of effective governmental policies aimed at enhancing tobacco leaf production. He cited the recent legislative reforms in the tobacco sector.
“The removal of certain restrictions has incentivized farmers to increase their tobacco cultivation,” he explained.
“Last season’s favorable prices were a testament to the fruitful collaboration between the government and buyers, and we anticipate similar outcomes this season.
