The New Coach for Mighty Wanders Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan arrived in Malawi on Monday at Chileka Airport where he was welcomed by the Board of Directors and supporters. Welcome at Lali-Lubani Ramadhan.
According to one of the Board Members Madalitso Mussa, the coach told them that he wants to make Wanderers family happy. “And we want Wanderers to be Mighty again.”
Ramadhan has brought good omen when Wanders legends beat Bullets legends today at Kamuzu Stadium.
During the game, the support from the two sets of opposing fans, clearly showed the encounter between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Legends and their FCB Nyasa Big Bullets counterparts was more than a social match as many may have probably thought.
The turnout at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon revealed numbers that some super league matches can only dream of. Every good touch, exciting dribble and shot was met with resounding applause from the fans.
When Bullets Legends finally broke the deadlock in the 78th minute through a Heston Munthali goal, the Bullets faithful erupted into unimaginable celebrations that reflected how much the moment meant to the rivalry between the two teams.
And the last minute equaliser from Victor Nyirenda in the dying minutes of extra time from Joseph Kamwendo assist, there was a huge explosion from the blue and white sea, which moments before had been swallowed by a descending gloomy cloud.
The old Blantyre derby euphoria had suddenly been reignited and one could not fail to fight a bit of nostalgia at the sight of former stars such as George Finidi Sangala, Andrew Aluki Chikhosi, Patrick ‘General’ Mabedi, Gift Dangerman Zakazaka, Billiat Angerezi Mkwapatira, Joseph Shakira Kamwendo and Fischer Anong’a Kondowe once again jostling for the cities football bragging rights.
The heavy downpour somewhat disturbed the rhythm of the game, but it did nothing in the spirit of competitiveness that characterised the game. Both teams showed how much they wanted no matter the circumstance.
The tie was decided by a penalty shoot-out which by and large only served to remind the fans of the wonder that former Malawi National team goalkeeper Simplex Nthala was. The Nomads shot-stopper saved three straight spot-kicks, a feat which eventually tilted the game in Nomad’s favour.
Flames coach and former Kaiser Chiefs captain, Patrick Mabedi led from the front when he was the first Bullets player to beat Nthala from the spot. The goal-minder had just denied Jimmy Zakazaka, Kondowe and Kondwani Kumwenda in spectacular fashion.
At the end of the day the Nomads celebrated emerging as the first winners of the CIC Insurance sponsored Legends Championship. Their jubilant fans joined them on the rain soaked pitch as they received their medals and trophy. Finally, there was some happiness at the Lali Lubani Road.
The game grossed over 8 million Malawi kwacha.
