Vice President Michael Usi, admired by many patriotic Malawians for his dedication to collaborating with President Lazarus Chakwera to enhance the welfare of the nation, has highlighted the importance of human resource management as the backbone of a thriving economy. He asserted that effective and efficient human resource management is crucial for achieving Malawi’s 2063 development goals.
Usi made these comments at the official opening of the three-day Annual General Meeting of the Human Resource Society of Malawi, held at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, themed “Actualizing HRSM’s Vision: Promoting Excellence in HR Practice.”
Usi made the remarks yesterday during the official opening ceremony of a three days Annual Human Resource Society of Malawi, Annual General Meeting at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi under the theme; “Actualizing HRSM’s vision: Promoting Excellence in HR practice.”
The VP observed that the theme is in line with Malawi 2063 Agenda which has mindset change and human resource capital as some of the enablers. He emphasised the need for HR professionals to embrace mindset change which his predecessor, late Dr. Saulos Chilima championed during his tenure of office. He further said that government recognises the role that HR practitioners play in shaping the future of the Malawi’s workforce towards human resource development.
“I stand today to pledge our unwavering support to the HR society of Malawi and its mission. It is therefore imperative that we take necessary steps to enhance HR practices across all sectors,” added Usi.
He appealed for collaborative effort from the private and public sectors, saying that government is dedicated to creating an enabling environment where HR professionals should thrive and implement best HR practices.
Usi then urged the HR practitioners to embrace the spirit of excellence and strive to be leaders, innovative and continuously aspire to improve things in their respective sectors.
In his remarks, patron for HRSM, Austin Chivwati Gondwe said the strategic plan which the HRSM launched should reflect the society’s commitment to elevating the HR profession in Malawi.
Gondwe concurred with Usi that HR is significant in the realisation of Malawi 2063 Agenda, observing that it cannot be achieved if HR practitioners fail to manage the employees.
He further said that HRSM recognizes the critical role that the HR practitioners play in driving sectors success and promoting Malawis economic growth.
“Our strategic plan outlines a clear road map for our goals. We will focus on building excellence, fostering collaboration and advocating for HR excellence. We will work tirelessly to provide our members with tools and resources, he added.
